Paying Homage to a Cultural Icon
Earlier this year, eyewear phenom Etnia Barcelona teamed up with the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat to celebrate the late artist's influence on social culture in the 80's. They released a limited-production collection, and is seen around the world on many celebrities.
This collection features three different pieces of artwork: In This Case, Fallen Angel (1981), and Glenn (1984). Each frame is detailed with Basquiat's iconic crown on the frame front, as well as Etnia Barcelona's gold plaque inside the temple.
A highly limited production run of high quality sunglasses and eyeglasses, they will stand both the test of time and fashion.
This collection becomes live in the new year!
The Artwork:
Fallen Angel (1981): An electrifying painting, a portrait of an obsession, a self-portrait of a person whose career was cut short but who left behind a powerful and complex legacy, like the fallen angel who disobeys God and is expelled from Heaven.
Glenn (1984): From a period of intense creativity. Representing a monstrous, feverish, static, black head, resembling a mask radiating energy and emotion, against a background wall like in a kindergarten.
In This Case (1983): One of Basquiat’s most famous works because of the way he combined complementary colours and contrasts between light and dark to create a rage-filled representation of himself.
